Event Center & Accommodation

The is no official event center.  All required information will be posted to the KOC website with package pick-up available at the event sites beginning with the Friday Street event.

There is a good variety of reasonably prices accommodation available in Kimberley.  The best deal and the place where most orienteers will be staying is at the College of the Rockies residence building in Cranbrook.  Book early as space is limited.  The rooms are private with each pod of rooms having its own kitchen facility.  Rates tax inclusive: (Hostel member / Non-hostel member) single $23.29/$27.89, dble $34.79/$39.39.  Call 1-250-489-8282.

Group camping is available at the Boy Scout Camp about 5 km up the St. Mary's River Road, just outside of Kimberley.  The site has ample camping for tents and trailers / motorhomes.  It has a kitchen with hot water plus a large barbeque (briquettes required).  There are no showers on-site but we'll arrange for showers at a nearby location.  Camping fee is $30 per site for the weekend.  Other, fancier, but not anymore scenic camping is available at the Wasa Lake Provincial Campground or the Kimberley Riverside Campground.

Awards

Once again our awards will feature the large and very tasty cookies made especially for us by the Kimberley Alpine Bakery.

Terrain

Open forest with a mix of medium size, rolling hills, ponds and some very detailed sections. Check out the pictures from the 2005 Spring run-off to get a feel for the terrain and the cookies.  Deer, moose and black bears are found in this part of BC .

The Alkali Lake and Sylvan Lake maps have  used for orienteering competitions sporadically since 1986.  Most recently, the Sylvan Lake map was used for the 2005 Spring run-off.  Both maps were used for the 2001 Barebones event. These maps will be updated by Bryan Chubb in early 2006. Updated to Sylvan Lake were done by Ted de St Croix in 2005.  A pdf version of both maps will be available on this site prior to the event.

Bavarian Barbeque

Continuing with our Bavarian Feast theme, this year we once again return to Kimberley.  The Feast will be held at the Old Bauernhaus and includes appetizers, main courses and dessert plus entertainment with the Don Davies Trio, all in a great setting.
